General Rules

  1. All entries must have been produced or made since March 2010 by the exhibitor whose name appears on the entry tag. Once an entry has been exhibited in the fair, it cannot be entered again in the future.
  2. Entries are limited to residents of Brevard County and must be amateurs in the department in which they enter.
  3. All entries must have an official entry tag attached with name, address, and phone number of exhibitor.
  4. Please refer to category rules for entry deadlines and release dates. A claim check must be presented to redeem entries. No exhibit may be removed before release without consent of the Fair or exhibitors will forfeit any premiums. Unclaimed items become property of the Fair.
  5. Any item entered into a judging competition may be photographed and used by the Brevard County Fair for advertising.
  6. Entrant must follow any special requirements listed under any individual Section.
  7. An exhibitor may enter only one item per class.
  8. The Brevard County Fair will take every precaution for the safety of all entries, but will not be responsible for loss of or damage to any entry, or for personal injury that is the result of entrant’s participation in the Brevard County Fair.
  9. If there is an absence of competition, or if the exhibits are inferior in quality, only such awards will be made as, in the discretion of the judges, the exhibit merits.
  10. Decisions of the judges will be final.
  11. The Fair reserves the right to combine or divide entries to make a class.
  12. Department supervisor may bar from competition entries of poor quality.
  13. The Brevard County Fair reserves the right to reject any entry not considered suitable, being too large, heavy or small to be displayed properly, or being in non-compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
  14. Judges may change items from one class to another at his/her discretion.
  15. The Fair office will issue awards within six weeks of the close of the Fair. Awards will be paid according to the judge's books, not from ribbons.

Divisions

Age divisions are as follows, unless specified by category:

  • Division A - K-2nd grade
  • Division B - 3rd-5th grade
  • Division C - 6th-8th grade
  • Division D - 9th-12th grade
  • Division E - Adult

Awards

  • 1st – 3rd place (Blue, Red and White ribbons) will be awarded for each class. All ribbon winners will be displayed. All others items will be displayed as space permits.

  • Best in Division will receive a Rosette and $25 and will be selected from 1st place winners of each class.

  • Best in Show will receive a Rosette and $50 and will be selected form Best in Division winners.

Department: Needlework and Sewing

  • Drop off and registration: March 28 between 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Brevard County Fair.
  • Winners will be displayed: The duration of the fair
  • Pick up: Sunday, April 10 at the Brevard County Fair from 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Items not picked will be held at the UF Brevard County Extension office for two weeks.

Rules

  • All articles must be clean and completed

Section 1: Fiber Arts - Knitting

Class 1: Shaped Accessory Items - gloves, mittens, hats, bags, socks

Class 2: Flat Knitting - table cloths, shawls, afghans, scarves

Class 3: Seamed Shaped Items - cardigans, sweaters. skirts, pants, jackets, coats

Section Rules

  • Each entry form must indicate if the piece is an original design or a pattern. If a pattern is used, please indicate what pattern was used.
  • Each entry form must indicate whether the item was knitted by hand or by machine.

Section 2: Fiber Arts - Crocheting

Class 1: Shaped Accessory Items - gloves, mittens, hats, bags, socks

Class 1: Fine Hooking: wool strips 1/32 to 5/32 of an inch wide

Class 2: Primitive Hooking: wool strips 6/32 to 1/2 of an inch wide

Section 4: Sewing: Majority Machine Work

(Must be hung on wire hanger for display. Clothes pins or safety pins may be used to attach items to hangers.)

Class 5: Formal wear

Class 6: Costumes

Class 7: Home décor

Class 8: Other

Department: Fine Arts

  • Pick up: Sunday, April 10 at the Brevard County Fair from 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Items not picked will be held at the UF Brevard County Extension office for two weeks.

Photograph Sizes and Mounting

Photos must be 5” X 7” only, matted.  No frames or glass allowed.

Class 1: Color - Animals

Class 2: Color - Landscape/Nature

Class 3: Color - People

Class 4: Color – Buildings/Architecture

Class 5: Color - Artistic*

Class 6: Black & White - Animals

Class 7: Black & White – Landscape/Nature

Class 8: Black & White – People

Class 9: Black & White – Building/Architecture

Class 10: Black & White – Artistic*

* Artistic (edited) shall be defined as any digital or hand alterations to the original photo or negative, including but not limited to cropping, red-eye elimination, contrast or brightness adjustment, or other enhancements.  Original photo should be attached.  Enlargements shall not be considered “edited” pictures.

Section 2: Sketches and Drawings

Class 1: Charcoal

Class 2: Mixed Media

Class 3: Pen and Ink

Class 4: Pencil

Class 5: Digital

Class 6: Other

Section Rules

  • Finished work must be no smaller than 12” X 18” mounted for Divisions A – C and no larger than 36” X 36” mounted for Divisions D & E.
  • Items may be shrink wrapped or otherwise protected.

Category: Culinary

  • Drop off and registration: March 28 between 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Brevard County Fair.
  • Winners will be displayed:March 27th between 1 and 6pm at the Fairgrounds
  • Pick up: Sunday, April 10 at the Brevard County Fair from 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Items not picked will be held at the UF Brevard County Extension office for two weeks.  Items that are of poor quality will be discarded.

Rules

  • All exhibitors must read and comply with general rules.
  • A whole loaf of bread or four muffins or biscuits are required for entry.
  • Four cookies are required for entry.
  • Two jars of preserves are required for entry.
  • Only clean, standard jars with acceptable lids and rings will be accepted.
  • Bakes good must be on disposable plates. No glass plates accepted.
  • No ready mixes allowed.
  • Recipe must be included with any entry.
