Event Description: This will be a fun but challenging youth archery tournament for kids 8 to 18 from beginning to advanced skill levels. Some experience is required.

Youth Archery Tournament

Date/Time: Saturday, March 27, 2010, Check in 8:00 to 8:30, Shooting begins promptly at 9:00 AM.

Location:Wickham Park Archery Range, 2500 Parkway Drive, Melbourne, FL 32935-2335.

Registration Due Date: by March 12th. All participants will receive free fair entry for themselves plus 1, including rides.

Who May Participate:Contestants must be currently enrolled in a youth archery program including but not limited to 4-H, scouts or a league. Enrolled members of any Brevard County 4-H Shooting Sports project will be given priority enrollment. Contestants must use their own archery equipment or make arrangements for equipment prior to the event. .

Divisions

Divisions will be made by age, bow type, sighted or unsighted. See below:

Age Categories

  • Junior: 8, 9, 10 years old by September 1, 2009
  • Intermediate: 11, 12, 13 years old by September 1, 2009
  • Senior: 14-18 years old by September 1, 2009

Bow Types

  • Traditional - Any recurve, long, bare or traditional bow.
  • Compound - Any bow with wheels or pulleys, with or without let-off.
  • Sighting – Sighting categories include Instinctive or Sighted. A sighted bow is one with any mechanical device attached to the bow, limbs or string. All sighted bows are scored equally.

Division Numbers - All Divisions are for Individual. There are no team divisions.

The Event

This event is a National Field Archery Association (NFAA) style, FITA target, 600 round. Brief description: Each archer will shoot 4 ends of 5 arrows at 3 distances – 60 arrows total. A total number of 600 points is possible.

Warm up:Each archer will be allowed one end of 5 arrows prior to scoring.

Junior Traditional and Compound – 10, 20, and 30 yards

Intermediate Traditional 10, 20 and 30 yards

Intermediate Compound 20, 30 and 40 yards

Senior Traditional and Compound 20, 30 and 40 yards

Target: FITA Style Target, 5-color face, 80 CM

Scoring

Gold 9 points and 10
Red 7-8 point rings
Blue 5-6 point rings
Black 3-4 point rings
White 1-2 point rings

Pass through or bounce out: any shaft that fails to remain in the target may be scored by the mark on the target face. Tied scores for 1st -3rd place will have a shoot off.

Awards

Awards will consist of rosettes and ribbons.

Rules

  1. The Match Director reserves the right to make changes to these rules in order to ensure success of the youth shooters, fair play and safety for all.
  2. All equipment will be inspected for safety, condition, etc. by field officials prior to the match and at any time during the match when inspection is merited.
  3. The maximum bow weight allowed in any division determined by the skill and strength of the archer and their ability to draw the bow safely. This will be checked before the match.
  4. A nock locator is required to position the nock of an arrow on the string.
  5. An arrow must be released off of a felt arrow shelf or an arrow rest. The use of an overdraw arrow shelf or rest is prohibited.
  6. Arrows consist of a shaft with a target or practice point, nock, fletching and personal identification markings. Arrows must be sound and spined for the bow.
  7. For recurve or “non-wall” shooters, at full draw, arrows must extend a minimum of 2" beyond the back of the bow. Compound bows with a draw restriction limit (wall), must have arrow points at least 1 inch in front of the bow hand.
  8. Each archer must provide an adequate number of arrows to complete each event.
  9. Mechanical release aids may be used only by compound shooters, unless a physical disability requires one. Competence with the equipment must have been demonstrated before the release aid may be used.
  10. Each archer must provide required arm guard and finger protection.
  11. Each archer will be required to use a belt or back quiver.
  12. "Drawing down" to the target is strictly prohibited. Archers must draw the arrow level to or below the target line.
  13. Contestants must attend mandatory safety orientation meeting prior to match. Archers should be familiar with the terms such as “cease fire” and “dry fire” prior to the event and should be familiar with range whistle commands.
  14. Bow racks will be provided. Bow and arrows will remain on the rack or with coaches, leaders, and/or parents until the beginning or after the match. Contestants will not handle bows and arrows until receiving permission from the Range Officer.
  15. Those who fail to follow these rules may be disqualified. This requirement is necessary to maintain a safe and fun atmosphere during any 4-H Shooting Sports event.
